FAQS

Why are parabens and phthalates not included in Miles products?

Parabens and phthalates are chemicals used in cosmetic and personal care products. Multiple scientific studies suggest they can disrupt hormones in the body, harm fertility and reproductive organs, affect birth outcomes, and increase the risk of cancer. They can also cause skin irritation. Nope, no thank you.

How were the formulas for Miles’ products created?

Many, many, many rounds of samples and lots of volunteer armpits! Creating a product formula is just like making a recipe. There are a slew of ingredients to consider. We had very specific goals for Miles (it has to work, it has to be as clean and natural as possible, and the price point needs to be accessible.) So we did many iterations to achieve what is now available to you.

What’s the real deal with aluminum in antiperspirant?

Almost all antiperspirants sold in the U.S. list some form of aluminum as the first ingredient included in the formula. Deodorants typically do NOT contain aluminum. Aluminum combines with moisture on the surface of the skin to prevent sweat from exiting the pores. For a while now, there have been rumors that aluminum causes diseases like breast cancer and Alzheimer’s.

According to the American Cancer Society, there are no strong epidemiologic studies in medicine that link breast cancer risk and antiperspirant use, and very little scientific evidence to support this claim. There are other reputable medical studies that show no significant link between aluminum and diseases like cancer and Alzheimer’s.

How many ingredients are required in deodorant and antiperspirant formulas?

Great question. If you look through the back label of any personal care or beauty product, you’ll see an array of ingredients and it can really vary from product to product. For Miles, we wanted ingredients to prevent body odor, soothe and moisturize tender underarm skin, help the product glide on smoothly without tugging and reduce wetness. And to create a long-lasting product, we also needed ingredients to help solidify and stabilize the total formula.
